After a century of technology development, Gezaixi (Taiwanese Traditional Opera) has interpretation in several forms. What kind of experience will it bring if we watch it on the head-mounted display? Does it still count as Gezaixi when the characters became virtual? Maybe you will give the answer.

Reborn reimagines Gezaixi (Taiwanese traditional opera) through volumetric capture and immersive VR. It preserves the delicate movements of Gezaixi while creating a new narrative space where culture and technology converge.

These volumetric performances were staged inside Unity, where dynamic lighting, shader effects, and VFX Graph enhanced the volumetric assets and integrated them seamlessly into the virtual stage.

Through VR, audiences step into the opera artist’s world, experiencing Gezaixi in a form that is both familiar and transformed. The narrative invites reflection on how cultural heritage continues to evolve when reborn in the digital realm.
